PT… It’s YOUR Choice
I’ve been a physical therapist for over 25 years now. And in that time, I’ve seen so many changes in the landscape of healthcare. The latest is the widespread opening and ownership of physical therapy clinics by physician and orthopedic groups. So, physicians I have known and worked with for over 2 decades and who sent me patients weekly during that time now refer only a handful each year. I have had previous patients of mine who require PT again call me and say “I’d like to come back and see you, but my orthopedic surgeon wants me to see his therapist. My doctor says his PT knows his protocols and will have constant communication with him to keep him updated on my condition.” It all sounds very convincing and many patients will agree to the doctor’s urging.
My response to the patient is “Does your doctor pay your copay? Does he/she pay your insurance premium? If he or she doesn’t, then the doctor has no say in where you choose to go to therapy.” Physical therapists are the musculoskeletal expert and we want to be part of your medical team for life, not just one orthopedic episode. That is why at Joint Effort Physical Therapy, we want to make a connection with each and every patient. We want to know who you are, who your family is and what your health goals are. And then we work together to achieve those goals.
I have treated multiple generations of families…grandparents, parents and children. I am honored that they call me when they have a medical issue that we address. So the next time you see your physician who pushes for you to see their PT department, please take a moment to remind them that it is YOUR choice where you want to attend physical therapy and let them know WHY you choose Joint Effort!
Thanks to all our patients, past and present, who make the choice to support a small family owned business and the personalized care we provide!
